International Congress of Veterinary Nephrology
The Romanian Society of Veterinary Nephrology HEMODIALIVET was born as a generous idea to share with veterinarian colleagues the knowledge gained from well-known lecturers, making it thus possible for colleagues to approach this new and tempting field.
The Congress hosted 767 veterinarians from 27 countries (Romania, Austria, Albania, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Leetonia, Lithuania, Malta, Mexico, Peru, Slovenia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Poland, Serbia, Turkey, UK, Croatia, USA and Russia), both owners of veterinary clinics and veterinarian employees.

The fourth edition of the Congress of Veterinary Nephrology brought together internationally recognized lecturers and veterinarians in the field of small animal pathology, with special concerns in the area of veterinary nephrology, cardiology, pathology, parasitology and internal medicine.
The International Congress of Veterinary Nephrology enjoyed the contribution of Clarke Atkins, Luca Ferasin, Luigi Venco, Nikola Katić and Leonel Londono.
The Pre Congress day was sponsored by CEVA and offered new info about last moment treatments in veterinary cardiology with the contribution of Clarke Atkins and Luca Ferasin.
Clarke Atkins, DVM, the Jane Lewis Seaks Distinguished Professor of Companion Animal Medicine (Emeritus) at North Carolina State University and 2004 Norden Outstanding Teacher Award Winner, is board-certified by the ACVIM (Medicine & Cardiology). He has served on 4 ACVIM or international Consensus Committees on systemic hypertension, canine mitral valve disease (2009, 2017), and cardiorenal syndrome. His research involves canine and feline heartworm disease and treatment of cardiovascular disease in dogs, cats, and horses. He has over 150 publications and has provided well over 1000 hours of continuing education in the U.S. and many countries around the world. Dr. Atkins continues to be active speaking and carrying out clinically-oriented research in retirement.
Luca Ferasin graduated with honours in 1992 from the University of Bologna. After 3 years research in endocrinology at the BBSRC Institute in Cambridge, he was awarded his PhD in 1996. Following 3 years as Assistant Professor at Padua University, Luca moved to Bristol University, where he taught cardio-respiratory medicine of the dog and cat for 7 years. In 2005-2007, he was Associate Professor in Cardiology at the University of Minnesota. He returned to the UK in 2008 working in various referral institutions, as well as offering telemedicine service and post-graduate teaching. He obtained the RCVS certificate in cardiology in 2001, the certificate in Teaching & Learning in Higher Education in 2002, the ECVIM diploma (cardiology) in 2004 and a Certificate in Business & Professional Studies in 2011. In 2019, Luca was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for his Meritorious Contributions to Clinical Practice. Luca has also vastly contributed to the veterinary literature with articles, abstracts, and book chapters, including the chapter on coughing in the latest edition of Ettinger’s textbook of Internal Medicine. He also acted as chairman of the ECVIM examination committee and was member of the RCVS examination board and BSAVA congress committee. Luca is a regular speaker worldwide. His main professional interests include feline cardiology, exercise physiology, as well as investigation and management of syncope and coughing.
Nikola Katić Dipl ECVS - Vetmeduni Vienna, Austria; Supervision Prof. Dr. Gilles Dupré, DECVS. Doctorate: Vetmeduni Vienna, Austria; Undergraduate studies: Veterinary Faculty, Belgrade Serbia and Vetmeduni Vienna, Austria. Owner of and surgical consultant at VetChirurgie. Previous positions: Head of Surgery at the AniCura Tierklinik Hollabrunn, Austria. Lecturer in Small Animal Surgery, Clinic for Small Animal Surgery, University Teaching Hospital for Small Animals, Department for Small Animals and Horses, Vetmeduni Vienna, Austria. Consummate small animal surgeon (soft tissue, orthopaedics, neurosurgery) with special emphasis on minimal invasive surgery (laparoscopy, thoracosopy) as well as advanced orthopaedic procedures (arthroscopy, TPLO, fracture management). Autor and Co-Autor of various publications in the field of small animal surgery. Reviewer in several relevant veterinary journals. Speaker and instructor at different international conferences and courses such as ESAVS courses (basic and advanced - soft tissue and orthopaedics), arthroscopy courses basic and advanced. Husband and father of two boys.
Leo Londono is currently Clinical Assistant Professor, at the Emergency & Critical Care Medicine and Hemodialysis Unit Director in the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida. Leo graduated Florida International University in 2003 as Bachelor of Science, Biology and University of Florida in 2011 as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He is an American College Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, DACVECC since 2016. Leo followed several Post-Graduate Trainings: Hemodialysis Academy (2018): UC Davis College of Veterinary Medicine. Advanced Certification Program for Extracorporeal Therapies, Clinician Scientist Training Workshop (2017): The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Emergency and Critical Care Residency (2015): University of Florida - Gainesville, FL and Small Animal Rotating Internship (2012): Hollywood Animal Hospital - Hollywood, FL. He is a member of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society and an American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Diplomate. Leo has been a speaker in US and Europe in many countries and he has a rich scientific activity.
The covered topics consisted of the most interesting and up-to-date information in the lecturers' areas of expertise. The elegant setting and modern organization of the conference fully contributed to its success.
The party was hosted by MC Wilmark and we all enjoyed a great live performance offered by Emilia Mușală and The Gentlemen Band. Our Guest Stars were Compact, one of the greatest Rock bands Romania and Mahala Rai Banda, well known for the traditional Balkan style. Our partner, Tohani Winery offered more than 750 bottles of some of the greatest Romanian wines.
The tombola offered 55 prizes with a total price of 26.000 euro.
